I think as children ask you would know depending on their age what would be suitable to tell them. What was said before about tellin a 6-8yo I think that would be more somethin to say to like a teenager!

Hey everyone. Well we have now moved into our much smaller but quieter unit which has been great. My little man is goin to daycare still 4 days a week. We are goin to the pool tomorrow morning as he has a swimmin trial to see how he goes before I book him into lessons as he hasn't been in a pool since he was about 6 months and he's now 3! I went to work today as am now workin at a little art gallery which has a cafe so I am still workin there my normal Tuesdays but next 3 weeks due to holidays I am workin Thursdays and weekends too which will be good for the extra money, also workin at St Vinnies Saturdays but can't for the next 3 as my other job needs me. Also put in resumes at heaps of motels and stuff to try and get cleaning work or just more work as the money always helps! My Mum will watch the little man while I'm workin so that will be good for me and for him to spend some time wit my parents. Single again down here and given up on males for a while as got sick of there games. Still got my group of friends but they don't all drop in here 24/7 like at the last place which has been good to have some time to myself and not worry about people wakin little man up at night when they come over so yeah the new move has been good even though just up the road from the last place but it's like a fresh start too. Craig also has had his own room and Cars bed since we moved in which he sleeps in now. He has his dummy still int he afternoon then half a bottle when he goes to bed but he has his bottle in his own bed now then goes to sleep by himself. He usually wakes up around 3am in the night usually because his dummy has fallen out so once I get up and give it to him he puts himself back to sleep then is up in the morning and turns the tv on and gets yoghurt out for breakfast so he's gettin so big but I'm so glad I now have my bed and room all to myself!!! Haven't had that since he was like born lol. Anyway hope your all doin well and now I have broadband unlimited back on but wireless this time as no phone line here but it's on here now so I can get online alot more when not at work etc so hope to get on here more and keep in touch! Take care everyone and talk soon. xoxo.

Playdaze Cranbourne

Great hands on activities for kids up to 5yo

Casey families are invited to discover what playgroups are all about at the City of Casey‘s PlayDaze event on Friday 3 April 2009.
The event is free for children aged up to five years and will be held at the Balla Balla Centre, 65 Berwick-Cranbourne Road, Cranbourne East from 10 am until 12 noon.

City of Casey Manager Children’s Services Ms Colette McMahon said the PlayDaze event would provide a wonderful opportunity for children, parents and carers to discover more about playgroups.

‘The event will give Casey families the opportunity to explore positive play experiences for children and learn about the importance of play in childhood development,’ Ms McMahon said.

‘Playgroups are an important step in childhood development and this event will give carers the opportunity to see how beneficial playgroup can be for their child.’

Highlights of the event will include storytelling sessions, a puppet theatre, gardening play and bush animal display.

‘The event will also showcase a wide range of activities that aim to stimulate open and imaginative play by using affordable and practical ideas that can be implemented at home or at playgroup,’ Ms McMahon said.

‘Children will be invited to enjoy activities with lots of natural, recyclable and inexpensive materials to create play experiences that are sensory and open-ended.

‘Council officers, early childhood professionals and agencies will also be available to provide advice and ideas to try at home.’

For more information contact the City of Casey’s Playgroup Development Officer on 9705 5200.

i think i have bought every different type of head lice shampoo on the market!! and still they didn't all disappear!

the comb was the best thing, but as you said it wasn't a hit wiith the kids! each time my now 6 1/2 yr old has had them i have just had to wash, comb & repeat until they were all gone - this sometimes took days and days.

one good idea after using the headlice shampoo was to wet & condition the hair and then leave in the conditioner while you used the nit comb. slid through the hair a lot easier and the nits apparently don't like the conditioner.

If all else failed, i would go the easy option and just shave my son's head - lucky for me i have 2 boys, don't think you could get away with this with any little girls!!

tea-tree oil and water in a spray bottle make for a good deterrent - as a daily spray to use on their hair to deter any headlice.  so if you hear of them around the school or kinder just start spraying your child's hair everyday with it. And use lots of hair product (such as gel or hairspray) they hate the stuff!!

good luck!

I have little kids who are only just coming into contact with these bugs.  I used the tea tree oil and the steel comb.  Not the most pleasant of jobs. Personally I think the steel comb does wonders but with our corse, thick hair the combing is not appreciated by my 3yo.

When I took part in the recipe exchange, I also got this idea - a more natural way to go. I thought some of you may be interested...

not quite a food recipe but great none the less

Head Lice Spray

Fill a squirty bottle with water, about 2/3 or 3/4 full

Add some conditioner and shake it.  Add enough that it turns the water white and opaque and stays mixed in.

Add even amounts of Rosemary, Lavender and Eucalyptus oil.  Depending on the size of the container you are using, keep adding until it smells good. I use about a half teaspoon of each, but my bottle is pretty big.

Shake it before you use it everytime and take care to spray behind the ears, the nape of the neck and where the fringe is, so that it gets through to the scalp, thats where the little blighters live.  Don’t spray it near the eyes, I get the bottle really close to the scalp when I spray it and it has a bit of a tendency to run off the hair because of all the oils in it, so pat it into the hair

Does anybody else have ideas on how to combat these sometimes very persistent creatures?

I have recently been involved in a recipe exchange (email chain) but thought that this chain mail was really useful.  I thought that I might post some of the recipes that i got from that process.

Chicken pasta bake

Ingredients
1 tablespoon oil
500g Chicken Thigh fillets
I tin cream of chicken soup
200g pasta spirals
handful of mushrooms
1 onion
1 zuchinni
1/2 tin(soup tin) water
1 cup bread crumbs
1/2 cup grated cheese

preheat oven to 180
Dice or slice chicken and cook in frypan with oil,
cook pasta as per packet instructions
remove chicken from pan and fry  vegetables till soft
place chicken, vegetables & tin of soup in baking dish mix well and then add water, stirring again.
Sprinkle breadcrumbs & cheese over the top place in the oven and bake for 30 mins.

Serves 4 is yummy & one of my hubbys favourites

FRUIT CAKE

300 gr. S/R Flour
Approx. 50 gr Sugar
Soak one cup of mixed fruit in fruit juice for one hour
Mix all ingredients together
Bake for about 45 - 50 minutes in a 180 degrees  oven.

Healthy and nice.

very good advice!!

but the worst bit is that whilst i know it is important, we very rarely if ever eat dinner together!
i usually start making dinner as soon as i get home from picking my son up from school. i like to get it done straight away so that i can have time to clean up after dinner, then get the 2 boys bathed and ready for bed so the rest of the night is hassle free! And they are usually really hungry after school -and this stops them from turning feral!
So we usually eat around 5/5.30pm and my partner is never usually home before 6.30pm!
So there goes that idea! Sad

but i do like the cuppa idea for after the kids have gone to bed - and we have actually started doing this, with a hot chocolate! It is a great thing to do.

We have also decided we are going to start 'date night' which means once a month (at the least) we are to plan something which the other partner would like to do (to encourage taking an interest in each others lives). And whoever is doing the planning needs to organise the babysitter too! So that means that if i am planning to take Gav out it has to be to somewhere he would love to go - and he has to do the same for me when it's his turn to plan!!
Because ordinarily our interests are sooooo different that we just do things separately.
But this idea actually has us get interested in each other again, and go out of our way for each other!! very romantic!!!  Wink
